Trish Chapman and the team at Wright Legal have been announced as WINNERS for Debt Market Deal of the Year in the Australasian Law Awards 2020 for Saracen Mineral Holdings debt acquisition facility to fund its 50% 'Super Pit' acquisition.
Saracen finalised $500m of debt in an extremely tight time frame to support its successful bid. BNP Paribas, Citibank N.A. and Westpac Banking Corporation acted as Mandated Joint Lead Arrangers and Underwriters on the syndicated debt facility.
Saracen acquired a 50% interest in the KCGM Joint Venture from Barrick Gold Corporation for a total price of US$750 million on 29 November 2020 after a competitive bid process. KCGM JV owns and operates the Super Pit gold mine in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, WA.
The Wright Legal team worked alongside Saracen’s tax, accounting and corporate advisors - PwC, RBC Capital Markets, Goldman Sachs Australia and Noah's Rule - to ensure a successful transaction. Herbert Smith Freehills Perth (led by partner, Andrew McLean) acted for the lenders.
